Northwestern Memorial
Hospital: Prentice Women’s Hospital
reopened in October 2007 with a fabulous, hotel-like facility. We had the
pleasure of staying there for 5 nights in August 2010 when Connor was born (in
a highly coveted lake view room). Prentice is located on Superior Avenue off of
Michigan Avenue in the Streeterville neighborhood in downtown Chicago.
Children’s Memorial
Hospital: Currently located in the Lincoln Park neighborhood it is one of
the best Children’s hospitals in the country. Children’s Memorial is currently
3 miles north of Prentice Women’s Hospital. To out of towners, 3 miles might
not seem very far but for those who know Chicago traffic and weather know that
3 miles means anywhere from 20–45 minutes. However, on June 9, 2012, Children’s
Memorial Hospital will be changing names to Ann & Robert H. Lurie
Children’s Hospital of Chicago. The hospital will also be moving downtown to
Streeterville and will be attached to Prentice Women’s Hospital on Superior
Avenue.
As you can imagine we are very disappointed we will be
missing this move by almost 2 months. Three miles does not sound far but to us it seems like another state all together.
I am laughing out loud at your "highly coveted lake view room" because of our tour. There was actually a lady that requested her room be a lake view room! HAHAH! When the nurse told her that it might not be possible, she was upset and said she was told they ALL were. The lady kindly explained that the hospital wasn't horizontally the length of the lake and therefore not all rooms were viewing the lake. Hilarious! :)
